I'm a big believer in education. So much so that this year, already, I've attended 9 days of decorating workshops and in July, I'll attend a 4 day convention...learning new techniques and wedding cake trends from the best in the wedding cake business. How to make a prettier rose, how to make a better cake, I want to stay on top of my industry and not get stuck in a rut.
Tues. I attended Engage '08, a seminar hosted by Rebecca Grinnals, of Engaging Concepts. This seminar was different from the others I've taken this year. Engage '08 was about the bride, the experience, and the wedding trends. In other words, how to make the brides interaction with us, Custom Cakes, a great experience. How can we, Custom Cakes, better serve our client. It was also a wonderful opportunity to network with others in the wedding industry and gain insight into other vendors way of doing things.
Marcy Blum (wedding planner to the stars) and Preston Bailey (event planner to the rich and famous) were two of several speakers present. They were gracious enough to answer our questions honestly and openly, all in an effort to help those attending advance their customer service. Also speaking was Simon T. Bailey. What a fabulous motivational speaker he is. All I can say is if you don't have his book, get it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Rebecca and Kathryn for a wonderful seminar! I can't wait to put into place the things I've learned. I think my clients will be happy too!
Preston Bailey and me!
