and I am a cake class addict. Be it teaching or taking, there is not much I like better than a cake decorating class. Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the South Carolina ICES Day of Sharing in Charleston. Sugar artists from around the southeast attended, sharing tricks of the trade, trends in the industry, and just talking "shop." Donna Holman (SCICES rep.) and her crew did an outstanding job!
Bronwen Weber of Frosted Art Bakery in Dallas was the guest demonstrator. Many of you may recognize Bronwen from the Cake Challenges she has participated in on Food Network. An innovative cake decorator, Bronwen really challenged us to take our skills to the next level.
Donna arranged for Bronwen to teach a couple of classes after the DOS. Thanks to my good cake friend Gail, I was able to attend the 3-d clown class. We learned how to build the support structure for the clown. Here is Browen explaining the support structure to the class:
We used modeling chocolate to form the legs, arms, stomach, and behind of our clown. His mid section is cake. Brownen is showing us how to shape the cake to make his belly and upper torso.
Next we will decorate our clown with fondant:
Bronwen suggested we name our clown so I named mine Moe after our office manager, Maureen, who collects clowns. Here's Moe in the back of my car ready for the ride home to Savannah.
I gave Moe to Maureen when I returned and I'm happy to say she loved her clown. Hopefully she'll cut him tomorrow and share the cake with us.
Thanks Browen for a fabulous class!!!!
I love Bronwen! I took her class on a 3-D dinosaur and a chef's head and learned SO much! Your clown looks great!
